Hmmm: Ghost Bikes

I'm not a cyclist and have never been one. I used to ride a bike when I was a child and my mom's sister's ex-husband's grandfather (got that?) was Major Taylor but that's about as close to cycling as I've gotten. Nonetheless, the article linked to in the heading of this post struck a chord with me, actually two chords.

One, because a very good friend of mine was hit by a motorist while cycling. Fortunately, he is now fine but it could easily have been a tragedy. And two, due to the rising cost of gas we should all expect that there will be more cyclists on the roads. As such, I want to do my part to help raise awareness of the cyclists that share the roads with those of us who are motorists.

The photo is of a "ghost bike" (see below) lets all do our part to insure that no more ghost bikes are created. We can both coexist on the same passageways together.
About 25 activists, part of an organization called GhostCycle, spent three months collecting online submissions of bicycle accidents across Seattle.

The group mapped the locations of about 140 accidents. Then, under cover of darkness, they placed 40 painted bikes, ghost bikes, at collision sites, each with an ominous sign reading "A cyclist was struck here."
