And get this...most of the land owned by the government is not parkland. I imagine a lot of it is land that is leased to mining, timber and oil companies for the extraction of natural resources but I don't know for sure.

Fascinating: Who Owns the West?
The percentage of land owned by the Federal government in the West is astounding. Nevada is in the #1 spot with a staggering 85% of land owned by the Federal government. The government also owns more than half of Oregon, Utah, Idaho and Alaska and nearly half of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming.
And get this...most of the land owned by the government is not parkland. I imagine a lot of it is land that is leased to mining, timber and oil companies for the extraction of natural resources but I don't know for sure.
