The latest from Google is an archive of millions, yes millions, of photographs from Life Magazine's archive which go back to the 1860's.
Given the upcoming inauguration I think the photo below, taken in 1870, of Hiram Revels is appropriate to showcase...
Who is Hiram Revels?
That's what I thought. I imagine at some point in my early educational pursuits I learned about him but then again it's quite possible that i didn't.
Hiram Revels was the first African American to serve in Congress, as a representative from Mississippi of all places...remember this was during the Reconstruction period and prior to things going downhill for another hundred years or so.
