I've never been a fan of hockey. I think I went to one game when I was about 10 and that was that.
Nonetheless, I was captivated by an NPR story I heard this evening about Willie O'Ree, the National Hockey League's first black player. It's a fascinating account of a man who played despite being blind in one eye, endured a bunch of racist crap and physical abuse and yet went on to have a stellar career including four appearances in the All-Star game.
