Republican National Committee Members will vote to elect a new chairman in late January. Two of the six in the running are the former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and the former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Michael Steele, both of whom are black. That's all well and good. Inclusion is a good thing even if for the life of me I can't figure out why on earth they are Republicans but hey that's just me.
Anyway, two of the others vying to lead the Grand Old Party, Katon Dawson and Chip Saltsman, probably spend a good chunk of their spare time in white robes and hoods.

If one of the Republican Party's challenges is how to effectively oppose the first black president without coming off as racist, one of the candidates for RNC chair is hardly off to a good start.
Chip Saltsman, the former campaign manager for Mike Huckabee, has distributed a goodie bag to committee members that includes a CD with a song called "Barack, The Magic Negro."
Saltsman defended the choice of the CD, telling The Hill: "RNC members have the good humor and good sense to recognize that the songs are light-hearted political parodies."
And one more from Talkingpointsmemo.com...
Back in September, when Katon Dawson was quietly laying the groundwork for his RNC run, The State newspaper reported that he resigned his membership in the nearly 80-year-old Forest Lake Club. Members told the newspaper at the time that the club's deed has a whites-only restriction and has no black members. Is the GOP mascot a plain elephant or is it Dumbo? Hmmm.
Dawson claimed to the paper that he'd actually been working since August to change the club's admission practices after reading about them in the press.
The paper says he was a member for 12 years.
Should be an interesting race. Stay tuned.
