Coming to America

DC is getting ready.

Driving into work today I couldn't help but notice all of the preparations underway (and related traffic problems) for the inauguration. I may do a longer post about that later but for now one person who stands out in Obama's life is on her way to DC.

From The Huffington Post...
Sarah Obama, Barack Obama's Kenyan, paternal grandmother, will soon arrive in Washington DC for her grandson's inauguration.

The AFP reports that Sarah will bring some unusual gifts for the new president: a three-legged stool and a traditional Luo oxtail fly whisk are some of the household items that could bring a new feel to the Oval Office.

The article also mentions that President-elect Obama is not well-acquainted with his grandmother, who is actually the stepmother of his Kenyan father.

No word yet on whether any of Barack's eight half siblings will be coming to the inauguration.

Welcome to Washington, DC Mrs. Obama.
