Since I spent mucho time up in air in 2008, it was fitting that at the stroke of midnight on the East Coast I was on JetBlue at 35,000 feet somewhere over western Nevada.
As I watched the ball drop in NYC on the mini TV screen that JetBlue serves up to each passenger, the pilot came on the intercom and did a 10 second countdown to midnight. A few people shouted "Happy New Years" while many others continued to sleep. The flight attendant, who must have been in a celebratory mood, gave me a free cocktail...a very rare occurrence these days. It was all a rather surreal experience.
I landed and by 10:30 I was at home at a party we were hosting...in time to watch the ball drop again and to celebrate the coming of a New Year one more time.
My second New Years was far better!

Luis and my first and only countdown to 2009 wasn't too shabby, either! =)
