Psychologists tell us that children who play with blocks grow up to be smarter than they otherwise might have been. If Curtis Steiner's "1,000 Blocks" don't quite boost your IQ, they'll certainly mesmerize you.

Steiner painted a thousand walnut blocks with the same matching pattern and arranged them in various configurations. Some look like floor mosaics. A few are figurative. All are amazingly intricate. Only locals get to play with Steiner's blocks themselves; they're in the Seattle Art Museum's permanent collection. But everyone can (and should) see the hundred designs that Steiner has posted online.
