The Speech Not Given

Conservative columnist and Nixon speechwriter William Safire passed away on Monday. Here's a speech he drafted for Nixon in case the Apollo 11 astronauts got stranded on the moon. Fortunately, this speech was never given but it's an interesting glimpse into a alternate timeline that could have been.

That's sort of eerie, being ready for their deaths with a prepared speech. But...it was necessary and I'm sure there are files, speeches, and photos, etc. that are still stored and ready to be pulled out at a moment's notice.

Good speech writer.

I think I saw a piece about him on TV; that he's written books and was big on correct grammar - I can use some of that. :)
