Happy Birthday Abe

Lincoln always seems to be depicted as dour and understandably so given the problems he had to deal with but apparently he also had a humorous side.

From AbeLincoln.com...
During the dark days of the Civil War, Lincoln would often tell funny stories to his friends. Lincoln told his friends, "Were it not for this occasional vent, I would die. I must laugh to keep from crying."

In honor of Abe's birthday, a little (very little) humor at his expense...

and a little (once again, very little) humor attributable to Lincoln himself from A Lincoln Library...
  • It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues.
  • If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?
  • Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
  • He can compress the most words into the smallest ideas better than any man I ever met.
  • Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.
  • If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; if this is tea, please bring me some coffee.
