Protest, Loss and Art

First the protest and tragic loss.

From the AP...
Emily Henochowicz, 21, of Maryland has lost her eye during a demonstration in Jerusalem against Israel's naval raid on a Gaza aid flotilla, a hospital official said Tuesday.

Henochowicz was hit in the face by a tear gas canister shot by an Israeli border policeman, said witness Jonathan Pollak. Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman, said, "We can confirm that a U.S. citizen, Emily Henochowicz, suffered a serious injury when a gas canister hit her in the face, as she was standing among other protesters in the West Bank at the Qalandiya checkpoint between the West Bank and Israel."

Now, Emily's art.

From Thirsty Pixels, Emily Henochowivz's blog...

Sheikh Jarrah - Amongst the chaos of the military and settler's attempts to squander our ability to paint a mural, a little girl sadly sits on the swing set.

Walaja Cake! Ingredients; One layer of determined activist over a layer of obediently angry army men, and a layer of camera people (to give it that worldly flavor) with a bulldozer on-top!
