Never Again

Today is a day that must never be forgotten and one whose deed must never be repeated.

From the Wall Street Journal...
Despite the fact that the U.S. made an unprecedented decision on Friday to send a representative to attend Japan’s annual memorial marking America’s atomic bombing, survivors of the bomb were not completely appeased by the gesture.

In Hiroshima, bells tolled on Friday and a thousand doves were released into the sky to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the detonation of “Little Boy”, the four-ton uranium bomb that went off at 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, 1945 and killed an estimated 140,000 people instantly.

The U.S. ambassador to Japan, John Roos, laid a wreath in the ceremony, though he did not make a speech. The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo issued a press release on Friday, in which he was quoted as saying: “For the sake of future generations, we must continue to work together to realize a world without nuclear weapons.”
