Has it really been 15 years?
Yesterday marked the 15th anniversary of The Million Man March, an event unlike any other in history.
That weekend, DC was filled to capacity, hotels were booked, restaurants packed, and spare bedrooms and couches occupied by friends and family who ventured to DC from across the country. From Friday to Monday the streets overflowed with a feeling of excitement, pride, solidarity, and trust.
It was an experience and a feeling I'll always treasure.
From a commenter on The Grio...
[I] journeyed from Mississippi to D.C. for that very special historical day in the life of america!!
On a Monday morning where normally almost every black man on earth must be at work, centuries of tradition were defied to make a statement that we could come together.
All along the way you saw Black Men traveling in the same direction!! Those that were not on their way cheered us on!! The feeling I had during that journey was the greatest feeling I ever experienced.
