Over the years, I've been fortunate to have some incredibly dishes in restuarants; however, I rarely write a post about a specific restaurant. Between Yelp, Chowhound, Zagat, and others I figure there's enough info out there that a post on this lil blog isn't adding much to the party.
Last night, however, was an exception.
From its rustic fire-glowing kitchen, Peasant, located in the NoLita neighborhood of NYC, turns out simple yet amazingly delicious dishes thanks to a wood burning oven, grill and best of all, spit.
Between the three of us there wasn't a single dish that disappointed. The highlights:
- Pasta with sea urchin...a revelation and I will be trying to replicate this in the near future.
- Spit roasted suckling pig and lamb...both extraordinarily tender and lip-smacking good.
- Spit roasted squab...WOW! Possibly one of the best dishes I've ever tasted.
If you live in NYC or are just visiting the Big Apple, check out Peasant, you won't regret it.
