30 Hours in Riyadh

It took !6 hours to get there and 20 hours to get back but the 30 hours in between offered a fascinating glimpse into many sides of Saudi life...

The historical: The Masmak fort
The culinary: A tasty selection of chicken, beef, and camel
The brutal: The square where public beheadings are routinely conducted
The traditional: Making bread
The mysterious: A woman selling fabrics wearing an abaya and a boshiya (face veil)
The fun: Soccer rules the world
The sexist: "We would like to advise that ladies are not allowed to use any of the above facilities except Golf."
The solitary: A man and his shadow stand alone
