Turning a Page

I went to NYC for a business trip this week (thus the blog silence) and stayed at a hotel a stone's throw from ground zero. On my way to the hotel on Monday, I decided to take a slight detour and walk by ground zero. I was half expecting some sort of celebratory mood but the atmosphere was quite subdued with the exceptions of one woman wearing some kind of flag costume.

After sharing a big hug, I overheard a firefighter tell a man in a military uniform "It's a good day but a sad day".

That just about sums it up. This chapter isn't over but a page has been turned.

A few images from ground zero in the days following bin Laden's death:

A few odds and ends about this week's stunning news...

As reported by NPR, the message on someone's homemade sign at the gathering in front of the White House shortly after the announcement of bin Laden's death: "Osama bin Gotten". Classic.

Filed under "appropriately strange coincidences" bin Laden's death occurred, to the day, on the eigth anniversary of George Bush's infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech and the 66th anniversary of the death of Adolph Hitler. Go figure.
