Hmmm: Remember Anthrax?

I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't remember the 2001 anthrax terrorism that occurred weeks after 9/11, paralyzed DC and disrupted mail service in many part of the country. It's seared in my mind because I was living in DC and my mail came through the Brentwood Mail Processing Facility where two postal employees died from anthrax inhalation in October 2001. People, including me, were checking every piece of mail we received for tiny white specks or any signs of contamination. It was a fools effort since the gig would have been up anyway if we had detected anthrax.

But why should you remember...it's been out of the news for years now and the FBI seems to be no closer to catching the culprit than they were 7 years ago. In fact, the US government just paid $4.6 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a man who was wrongfully implicated. In a press briefing today, the White House press secretary couldn't respond to a question as to whether the President was satisfied with the anthrax investigation. For a related article click here.

So let's see, almost 7 years later and both Osama and the anthrax terrorist are both still roaming free.

Attaboy George, you're doin' a heckuva job!

Update: Seems as though the FBI my have caught their guy or almost caught their guy since he committed suicide....or did they? Suspicions linger as to whether Ivins had the skills to powderize anthrax as this Washington Post article points out.
