Mo' Etta Blues

I was wondering during the Inauguration why Beyonce sang "At Last" for the Obama's first dance rather than Etta James who single handedly made the song famous.

Now the truth comes out.

From the Huffington Post...
Etta James has lashed out at Beyonce weeks after Beyonce sang James' classic "At Last" for the Obamas' first dance at the inauguration.

At a concert in Seattle last week, James told the crowd, "I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whupped," sarcastically calling her "The great Beyoncé."

"I can't stand Beyoncé... [she] had no business ... singing my song that I been singing forever."

Etta subsequently backtracked and said she was just joking (yeah right).

The whole thing is a bit confusing because Etta reportedly was ill and couldn't attend the Inauguration so who knows where the truth lies. Anyhow, if it's any consolation Etta I would have preferred hearing you sing "At Last"...

FYI, Nat King Cole sang and recorded At Last before Etta did.
