Hidden Gem of DC

I heard on the radio a few days ago that during the course of a year 25 million people visit the National Mall in Washington, DC. Of those 25 million I would bet that very few visit what I think is the best hidden gem in DC, the National Arboretum.

We visited a few weeks ago when the Cherry Blossoms were in bloom and yesterday we took my mom to the Arboretum to see the Azaleas and Dogwoods.

Nine miles of roadways wind through numerous gardens and collections of trees, plants and flowers on a 446-acre campus, free entry, free parking, picnicking, columns from the US Capitol, and an incredible bonsai collection with some trees over 400 years olds.

Simply beautiful!

If you've never been, do yourself a favor go the next time you are in DC. You can check out what is blooming when by clicking here or click on the map below to take a virtual tour.
