Crazy: Ecstasy Destroying Forest Wilderness

From a recent article on a United Nations website:
The production of sassafras oil, which is used to make the recreational drug ecstasy, in southwest Cambodia, is destroying trees, the livelihoods of local inhabitants and wreaking untold ecological damage...

I've never had a reason to know more about how this drug is produced yet when I came across this article I thought it was very interesting. My impression is that ecstasy is (was?) the drug of choice for teens and younger adults into the rave and club culture. Yet this is also the same demographic that strongly advocates for the environment and is anti-globalization because of the supposed harm that it does to local economies, cultures and ecologies. Ya' see the conflict here?
