Hmmm: Cancer Expert Warns About Cell Phones

Contrary to numerous studies that have not found a link between cell phone use and cancer, the Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute warned his faculty and staff yesterday to limit cell phone use because of the risk of cancer.

Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science, and he believes that people should take action now, especially when it comes to children.

"Really at the heart of my concern is that we shouldn't wait for a definitive study to come out but err on the side of being safe rather than sorry later," Herberman said.

I've been of the view that there is no linkage based on various studies over the years, several of which have occurred in Scandinavia where cell phone penetration is very high. However, now that I think about it more Nokia and Ericcson, major manufacturers of cell phones, are both Scandinavian companies and as Heberman points out...isn't it better to err on the side of safety?
