Recent Flavors

In the midst of the DC heatwave, I finally broke out my east coast ice cream maker and churned out a few batches, all using recipes from The Perfect Scoop.

First up was sorbet, which turned out to be very...mangoey. It was good but not in the upper echelon.

Next came, ice cream which brought back many memories of making peach ice cream the old fashion way at my aunt's house using peaches from her tree and lots of ice, rock salt, and energy from overeager children. The version I made was good but quite different from other ice creams I've churned. The recipe called for a significant amount of sour cream and as such, the ice cream had a distinct lemony flavor which was tastey but just not as peachy as we were expecting.

Most recently, ice cream made a double encore appearance, first using Lavazza coffee and accompanied by delicious profiteroles with chocolate sauce (my wife's first run at ice cream and it was fantastic) and today using Blue Bottle coffee.

Next up...Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream...I think.
